Job Description Summary:
Reporting to the Vice President, Strategic Communications & Branding, in the Sustainability & Communications (SustComms) Division, the Head of Corporate Communications (HoCC) provides leadership in designing and delivering communications strategies in support of business objectives.
The Head of Corporate Communications must work across communications disciplines including media relations, public relations, internal communications, crisis communications and marketing as well as other integrated communications disciplines, drawing on the PESO (Paid, Earned, Shared, Owned) Model.
Using creativity, along with a solid understanding of the business needs, the role holder needs to conceptualise, plan and execute corporate communication activities, ranging from events, pitches and collaborations. This role also leads discussions with media partners and internal stakeholders to ensure consistent delivery of company’s key messages across media platforms and will increase corporate reputation through sustained positive media coverage and public relations initiatives.
The post-holder is a member of the SustComms senior manager team and contributes to the development of the company’s global corporate communications strategy. The HoCC works a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends and should be willing to travel within and outside the country when needed.
Job Description:
Leadership & Strategy
  • Provide leadership for corporate communications across the group, working collaboratively with executive leadership, board of directors, country offices, and agencies as needed.
  • Develops, implements and measures impactful corporate communications strategies that support the organisation’s objectives and enhances its reputation.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership and other departments to align communication efforts with business goals.
  • Liaises with the Sinar Mas President’s Office to ensure alignment of activities and messaging with the Sinar Mas brand.
People & Resource Management
  • Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of the corporate communications team members based in Jakarta and overseas staff based in Singapore and other locations.
  • Develop and implement professional development and training programmes to improve the capacity and competency of the team, keeping up with external trends in corporate communications.
  • Develops and implements relevant communications protocols including crisis communications protocols, sign off procedures, messaging guidelines and communications planning tools in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure appropriate and cost-efficient budgeting of global corporate communications activities. Day to day management of the Corporate Communications budget in Indonesia ensuring efficient allocation of resources and cost effectiveness.
  • Develops and implements communications training, including building the capacity of business units to manage local media and rapid response (issues management) communications needs.
  • Manage external agency support and vendors, as appropriate.
Media Relations
  • Oversee media relations activities, including the development of press releases, media kits and other communication materials.
  • Manage relationships with journalists and proactively seek opportunities for positive media Identify speaking and writing opportunities for company leadership.
  • Lead discussions with media partners and internal stakeholders to ensure consistent delivery of company’s key messages across media platforms.
  • Oversee media monitoring and reporting efforts to evaluate sentiment, media reach, and reputational impact.
  • Act as a spokesperson for the company as needed.
Crisis Communication and Reputation Management
  • Manages issues and crisis communications in coordination with key company leaders.
  • Develop and maintain a crisis communication plan to address potential issue promptly and effectively.
  • Serve as the point of contact for media inquiries during crises and manage the communication response.
  • Monitor online, social, and media mentions to detect early risks.
  • Lead post-crisis communication strategies to rebuild trust and public confidence.
  • Ensure stakeholder messaging alignment across functions during sensitive issues.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to prepare pre-approved messages for swift response.
Internal Communications
  • Set the strategic direction for internal communications to align and inform employees across all internal touchpoints.
  • Ensure consistency and effectiveness of internal content across all channels like OneGAR, and InFocus.
  • Partner with HR and business leaders to align messaging during key organisational events (i.e. town hall)
Site Visit Management
  • Oversee the strategy and standards for site visits involving external stakeholders, VIPs, and partners.
  • Ensure alignment across planning, logistics, hosting, and communication protocols.
  • Guide the team in delivering a consistent, professional, and brand-aligned experience during site visits.
  • Approve key visit narratives, presentation materials, and post-visit documentation to ensure messaging consistency.
Evaluation & Measurement
  • Implement AMEC integrated evaluation framework to measure the effectiveness of communication strategies.
  • Analyse data and feedback to continually improve communication efforts.
  • Develop and implement monitoring and reporting processes that capture the campaign output, outcomes and when possible impact.

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
  • At least 12-15 years’ experience, including 3 years in a management role, in corporate communications for a major Indonesian or multi-national organization; ideally in agri-business or FMCG.
  • The ability to develop and implement strategic communication plans aligned with the organisation’s goal and objectives.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills in Bahasa Indonesia and English are essential. The ability to craft clear, concise and compelling messages is crucial.
  • World-class oral, written and visual communicator.
  • Demonstrate a superior understanding of the media within a given industry
  • Demonstrable understanding of and experience in content development for digital and social use.
  • Experience in crisis communications and the ability to respond effectively to unexpected situations.
  • Proficiency in utilising digital and social media platforms for corporate communication purposes. This includes social media strategy, content creation and monitoring.
  • Understanding of global communication trends and the ability to tailor communication strategies for diverse audience.
  • Familiarity with the industry in which the organisation operates, as well as an understanding of the competitive landscape.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage and lead a team of communication professionals.
  • Demonstrable ability to manage a heavy workload, multiple tasks and tight deadlines while assessing priorities effectively.
  • Provide strategic counsel on crises and how crises might affect the business’s goals.
  • Experience with active accounts across key social media sites required.
  • A strong understanding of media platforms, an established network of media contacts and a proven ability to identify communication opportunities beyond conventional media.
  • Strong negotiation, problem solving & analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail and an ability to make connections across issues and activities within the business to maximize their communication potential.
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills and organizational savvy, excelling at high-level thinking and execution as well as influence of others to achieve a common goal.
  • PC skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word & Power point).
